Freshman defender
Camille Weaver struck for the game-winning goal with 75 seconds remaining in the game to lift the Colorado College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the University at Albany on Thursday afternoon at Stewart Field.
Weaver collected a loose ball near midfield off of a clearing attempt, weaved her way through the Great Dane defense and put a shot over the fingertips of Albany freshman goalkeeper Sophia Chen from 25 yards out.
CC improved to 1-2-0 with its first victory, while UAlbany slipped to 0-2-0.
Riley Prillwitz gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead near the end of the 15th minute when Chen mishandled a long ball off the boot of junior midfielder
Lauren Milliet and CC's first-year midfielder got just enough of the ball to send it over the line.
Colorado College appeared to be in control when the teams were sent off the field in the 61st minute due to lightning strikes in the area. The Great Danes caught their breath during the 54-minute delay and began to put pressure on CC.
Junior midfielder Mariah Williams knotted the score with a little less than eight minutes remaining when she converted on a penalty kick after freshman midfielder Mariah Eifler was taken down just inside the top of the box.
That however, proved to be the only shot that would elude first-year goalkeeper
Jade Odom, who made four saves en route to her first career victory.
Her best save occurred just after the game was restarted in the 60th minute, smothering a bending shot from freshman forward Miranda Badovinac from just outside the left edge of the penalty area.
Chen finished with one save and received some timely help from her back line which prevented a pair of goals. Freshman defender Katie Gowing made a huge stop on junior forward
Clara Richter, who had gotten behind the Albany defense and would have scored had it not been for the Gowing's lunging stop at the right post.
The Great Danes finished with a 13-8 advantage in total shots and a 7-5 margin in shots on target.
The Tigers had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Colorado College is idle until Friday, Sept. 1, when the Tigers travel to the University of Kansas for their first night game of the season.
