Box Score 2 The ninth-ranked Colorado College volleyball team recorded a pair of convincing victories to open the 2017 season at Reid Gymnasium.
The Tigers cruised to a 25-14, 25-14, 25-17 win over Whittier College in their first game, then overcame a stiff challenge from Ithaca College in the nightcap before securing a 25-19, 24-26, 25-15, 25-14 against the Bombers in the final match of the day.
Led by middle hitters
Glenna Yancey and
Myca Steffey-Bean, CC hit a sparkling .326 against the Poets.
Yancey had 10 kills on 13 attacks with only one error, good for a .692 attack percentage. Steffey-Bean had six kills on 11 attempts with just one error, and also finished with just one error.
Junior rightside hitter
Aria Dudley also finished with 10 kills for the Tigers.
Sophomore libero
Anna Gurolnick registered a game-high 14 digs to pace the Colorado College defense which held Whittier to a negative .024 attack percentage.
Sophomore middle hitter Alaina Rhee led the Poets with six kills while sophomore defensive specialist posted a team-high eight digs.
In the nightcap, senior outside hitter
Reagan Folaron had 11 kills to pace the Tigers. Yancey added eight kills and had a hand in five blocked shots.
Gurolnick led the defensive effort with 20 digs, while freshman defensive specialist
Rachel Krutz added 17.
Senior outside hitter Joelle Goldstein led Ithaca with a match-high 14 kills, while junior defensive specialist Tara Stilwell led all players with 21 digs.
The 2017 Colorado College Classic continues at 10 a.m. Saturday when Ithaca plays Whittier in the first of five matches.
The Tigers play host to Berry College at noon and finish the tournament against Augustana College at 6 p.m.
