Tigers Cut Down Lake Forest In ACM Opener

Box Score The Colorado College volleyball team opened the 2017 ACM Tournament with a convincing 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 victory over Lake Forest College on Friday afternoon at Reid Arena.

Senior outside hitter Reagan Folaron led the sixth-ranked Tigers with nine kills, while senior middle blocker Glenna Yancey finished with eight and a sparkling .467 hitting percentage.

Folaron and freshman defensive specialist Rachel Krutz served up three aces apiece as CC scored 10 points from the end line.
The Colorado College defense blocked nine shots while holding the Foresters to a .039 team hitting percentage. Counts had a hand in four of those blocks, while sophomore middle hitter Marguerite Spaethling was involved in three.

Sophomore libero Anna Gurolnick recorded a game-high 10 digs to lead the Tigers.

Junior outside hitter led Lake Forest with nine kills, while freshman outside hitter Olivia Grimmer added eight.

Lake Forest stayed with Colorado College early in the first two sets, but the Tigers exerted their will and pulled away with large runs each time. Lake Forest was within 9-8 in the first set, but CC outscored the visitors 16-5 to take a one-set lead.

In the second, the Tigers were ahead 12-9 when they exploded for an 8-1 run and the Foresters were unable to respond.

LFC took its first lead of the match on a kill by Isabel Donnelly early in the third set and the Foresters led 11-8 after an ace by sophomore libero Beana Yanovskaya. However with Folaron serving, Colorado College scored nine consecutive points to take control of the set and Lake Forest never got closer than five points.

In the first match of the tournament, Coe College defeated Carleton College 29-27, 25-16, 25-22. Lake Forest bounced back to defeat Carleton 25-23, 13-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9.
