Box Score Freshman sensation
McKenzee Gertz poured in a game-high 24 points, but Colorado College dropped a 70-46 decision at Southwestern University on Friday night.
Gertz connected on nine of 19 shots from the floor, including four of 10 from behind the arc, while surpassing the 20-point mark for the second time in the last three games.
Junior guard
Casey Torbet finished with 10 points and was the only other Tiger who reached double digits.
Despite shooting a fraction under 35 percent from the floor, CC was still within striking distance after 30 minutes.
A three-pointer by Gertz capped a five-point surge that cut the Colorado College deficit to 11 points with 10 minutes to play, however the Pirates scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter and were never threatened as they squared the season series at one game apiece.
A jumper by sophomore guard
Nia Duplain pulled the Tigers to within 28-24 with 2:37 to play in the first half, but Southwestern scored the final seven points of the second quarter to take a double-digit lead after 20 minutes.
