Boise State Trips Tigers, 1-0

Colorado College played a nearly flawless 90 minutes against Boise State University on Sunday afternoon, but the Mountain West leaders made the most of their one offensive opportunity and escaped Stewart Field with a 1-0 victory on a bone-chilling  Sunday afternoon.

After being held in check for more than 80 minutes, junior forward Raimee Sherle was on the receiving end of precision passes from Aubree Chatterton and McKenna Kynett and slipped a right-footed shot inside the near post from the top of the six-yard box.

It turned out to be the only shot the Broncos were able to put on target.

Despite playing into a 19 mph wind during the first half, the Tigers were able to launch five shots, the same total produced by BSU.

CC controlled the run of play during the opening minutes of the second half and created their best scoring opportunity in the 49th minute when the Tigers worked the ball into the right side of the box.

However, junior midfielder Johanna Hamblett's shot from 10 yards out in front of the right post was blocked and freshman forward Jacqui Hand's follow-up from the top of the 18 sailed wide right.

In the 60th minute, junior forward Catie McDonald was taken down from behind in the box, but Boise State avoided disaster when no penalty was given.

Nearly seven minutes later, BSU senior goalkeeper Tara Fisher made the only save of the game when she stopped a McDonald shot from the left side of the box.

Colorado College finished the game with an 11-7 advantage in total shots, while the Broncos earned a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

The Tigers, who are 8-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the conference, play their final road games of the regular season next week when they visit San Diego State on Friday, Oct. 19, and the University of New Mexico on Sunday, Oct. 21.
