Will Mallory scored the game's only goal and
Keller Mochel posted his ninth shutout of the season as the Colorado College men's soccer team defeated the University of Dallas, 1-0, Sunday afternoon on Stewart Field.
Â
The Tigers (10-3, 8-2 SCAC) controlled play in the first half, outshooting Dallas 7-3, but could not find the net behind Crusader goalkeeper Sean Carlin.
Â
In the 51st minute, CC midfielder
Samson Heyer sent a pass towards the box that was picked off by a Dallas defender, but the ball went right to Mallory in the middle of the box, and he fired a shot that hit the crossbar and went straight down.
Â
The officials ruled the ball crossed the goal line for Mallory's second game winner of the season, both of which occurred during 1-0 victories over the Crusaders.
Â
Mallory now has factored in four game-winning goals this year, scoring a pair and setting up two others.
Â
"The guys turned in a gritty performance this afternoon," head coach
Scott Palguta said. "We played really well in the first half and dictated play, but couldn't solve Dallas in the final third.
Â
"In the second half, after scoring a very nice goal, the game became far too wide open and we struggles to control the tempo of the game."
Â
Dallas (6-3, 5-2 SCAC) picked up the pace after the goal and outshot the Tigers, 8-3, during the final 45 minutes.
Â
The Crusaders' best scoring chance came with 24 minutes remaining when Mochel sent a pass directly to UD's Nat Kajiwara, who found himself one-on-one with Mochel. Kajiwara made a move at the top of the box, but Mochel thwarted the effort and secured the one-goal lead.
Â
"We got big performances from
Henry Schuler, Alex Makic and
Rory Eastland-Fruit, which was just enough to hold off Dallas during a frenzied final 15 minutes," Palguta added.
Â
Each goalie made four saves, while Mallory led all players with four shots.
Â
Colorado College extended its scoreless streak to nearly 454 minutes and its five consecutive shutouts are the most for the program since 2015 when the Tigers did not allow a goal during the final five games of the regular season and the semifinal match of the SCAC championship at Stewart Field.
Â
CC heads back out on the road next weekend for matches against Texas Lutheran University on Friday, Oct. 12, and Southwestern University on Sunday, Oct. 14.
