Last Weekend
The Tigers were swept by No. 1-ranked Minnesota Duluth at Amsoil Arena last weekend ... On Friday, UMD scored once in each period and Hunter Shepard made 19 saves as the Bulldogs blanked CC, 3-0. Justin Richards put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 at the 8:17 mark of the first period when he deflected a shot from Matt Anderson past Tiger goalie
Alex Leclerc. The Tigers came out with some jump in their step at the beginning of the second period, outshooting UMD, 5-0, in the first five minutes.
Grant Cruikshank,
Westin Michaud and
Tanner Ockey each had a good look from close in, but Shepard kept the shutout intact. After UMD survived the CC push, Nick Wolff put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 with a shot from the left point that snuck past a screened Leclerc at the 7:31 mark of the middle frame. Parker Mackay scored the final goal of the game with a power-play tally from the slot with Leclerc screened again at the 7:35 mark of the third period. Scott Perunovich and Peter Kreiger collected the assists on UMD's final two goals. UMD outshot the Tigers, 32-19, and was 1-for-2 on the power play. Jackson Cates led all players with six shots, followed by Richards with four. Colorado College did not capitalize on either of its first-period power-play opportunities.
Trevor Gooch,
Alex Berardinelli and Michaud each had a team-high three shots.
Cole McCaskill,
Zach Berzolla and
Bryan Yoon each paced the Tigers with two blocks, while Leclerc finished with 29 saves ... On Saturday, Nick Swaney scored two goals and Riley Tufte added a goal and two assists as UMD posted a 5-1 victory. Hunter Shepard made 15 saves as the Bulldogs outshot the Tigers, 38-16, and extended their winning streak to eight. Colorado College dropped their fourth consecutive game, all against the top two teams in the nation. Swaney scored just 2:08 into the contest to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. He gathered the puck behind the Tiger net, attempted a wraparound shot that was saved by Leclerc, but Swaney put home his own rebound from the right side of the net. In the final minutes of the period, Berardinelli nearly tied the game, but his shot from the slot rang off the post. At the other end, Richards took a pass from Mackay and beat Leclerc from point-blank range to make it 2-0 with one minute left in the frame. After Mackay scored just 26 seconds into the second period to make it 3-0,
Nick Halloran scored on the power play to cut the lead to 3-1 at the 8:16 mark. With the puck in the UMD zone, Yoon sent the puck along the boards to
Trey Bradley, who found Halloran across the ice at the left circle and he sent a one-timer past Shepard. Swaney notched his second of the game to make it 4-1 at 12:59 of the second by completing a 2-on-1 with Tufte right in front of Leclerc, then Tufte blasted a shot from the top of the right circle on the power play with 1:52 remaining in the middle frame to complete the scoring.
Alec Calvaruso spelled Leclerc at the beginning of the third period and stopped all six shots he saw after Leclerc had 27 saves in the first 40 minutes.

With the victory over Air Force on Oct. 13, Colorado College claimed the Pikes Peak Trophy for the first time. Matchefts compiled a record of 54-88-3 in five seasons (1966-71) at the Colorado College helm before posting a ledger of 154-150-6 in 11 years (1974-85) with Air Force.
