UW-River Falls Too Much for Young Tigers

Colorado College ran into a red-hot University of Wisconsin-River Falls team on Saturday night and came out on the wrong end of a 104-68 result in the final game of the 2018 Tiger Tip-Off Tournament at Reid Arena.

The veteran Falcons shot nearly 62 percent from the field during the first half, and was even better from three-point range where they made nine of 14 attempts (64.3). The net result was a 63-28 lead after 20 minutes, which left little doubt as to which team would earn the victory.

UW-River Falls scored 51 points from behind the arc, connecting on 17 of their 28 long-range shots.

The Tigers pushed the re-set button at halftime and stayed with UWRF during the second half.

Eric Jonas scored a career-high 14 points to lead CC. The junior guard connected on five of 10 shots from the floor, including two of four three-point attempts.

CooXooEii added 13 points and grabbed a team-leading six rebounds. The junior forward earned a spot on the all-tournament team after leading Colorado College to a 1-1 record.

Freshman guard Scott Cunningham recorded eight points, four rebounds and three assists for the Tigers.

Senior guard Clay Seifert scored 17 points to lead five Falcons who scored double-digit points.

Junior guard Matt Keller finished with 16 points, while freshman forward Nathan Macho came off the bench to add 13 for UW-River Falls.

In the first game of the night, Andrew Romero scored 35 points and Jontrell Herman added 31 to lead Johnson & Wales University (2-0) to a 95-73 victory over Iowa Wesleyan University (0-2).

Herman was named MVP of the tournament, while Romero earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Colorado College plays host to the University of Texas at Tyler and George Fox University next Friday and Saturday, respectively, in the 2018 Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic.
