Milliet Strikes Twice as CC Tops Islanders

Lauren Milliet struck for a pair of goals and the Colorado College defense allowed just three total shots during a 2-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in CC's home opener on Friday afternoon at Stewart Field.

The Tigers improved to 3-0 and began a season with three consecutive victories for the first time since starting the 2005 campaign with five straight wins. Colorado College also improved to 11-3-1 in home openers during head coach Geoff Bennett's 15-year tenure.

Milliet scored the only goal the Tigers needed late in the 44th minute when she took a pass from junior midfielder Lucia Costanza on the right side of the box and beat Islander goalkeeper Kyleigh Hall with a crossing shot toward the far post. It was Costanza's team-leading third assist of the season.

The senior midfielder completed her brace in the 71st minute when she converted a penalty kick with a high shot to the left side of the net.

Milliet's first goal proved to be the sixth game winner of her career.

With her two goals, Milliet climbed into a six-way tie for 18th place on the program's all-time goal-scoring list with Kasey Clark (1997-2000), Traci Holbrook (1990-93), Charry Korgel (1988-91), Laura Jones (1987-90) and Maryclaire Robinson (1986-89). She also is 22nd with 47 career points.

Colorado College has now played a little more than 263 minutes since allowing a goal during the 2-1 victory at the University of Northern Colorado in the season opener on Aug. 16.

Junior goalkeeper Jade Odom made two saves while posting her second clean sheet of the season and the fifth of her career.

She wasn't tested until the 75th minute when she made a diving save on Siri O'Donnell's header from the center of the box off of a Celia Hilsabeck corner kick.

Odom lowered her goals-against average to 0.33 and raised her season save percentage to .917.

Madeline Lozano launched the Islanders' first shot on goal less than nine minutes into the game.

Colorado College finished with a 16-3 advantage in total shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.

Hall stopped four shots for A&M Corpus Christi, which dropped to 0-1. Her best save occurred during the 68th minute when she came off her line to deny Catie McDonald after CC's junior forward got behind the Islander defense.

The Tigers are idle until Friday, Aug. 31, when they play host to Columbia University at 3 p.m. on Stewart Field.
