Hubbard’s Golden Goal Lifts CC Past Houston

Freshman forward Abby Hubbard struck for her first collegiate goal 1:39 into the second overtime to give the Colorado College women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over the University of Houston on Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.

Hubbard scored on a header from the center of the box off of a cross from Lauren Milliet after the senior midfielder collected the rebound of a shot by freshman forward Kiley Suter near the right edge of the box.

Milliet now has factored in 12 game-winning goals during her career, scoring six and setting up six. She now is part of a five-way tie for 13th place on the program's all-time chart with 14 assists and is tied for 21st with 48 career points.

The Tigers completed their non-conference schedule with a 4-2-0 record and gave head coach Geoff Bennett career victory No. 200.

CC broke through in the 14th minute when junior midfielder Madeline Stesney pounced on a Cougar clearing attempt near the top of the box and put a low shot into the left side of the net for her first career goal.

The Tigers controlled the run of play during most of the contest, but found themselves in a 1-1 deadlock due to an own goal that occurred with two seconds remaining in the first half.

Jade Odom made a punch save on a shot by Houston's CaLeigha Callahan with 13 seconds to play while crashing into the right post. However, on the ensuing corner kick, the ball was headed into the net on a clearing attempt by a Colorado College defender.

The sophomore goalkeeper kept the game level at 1-1 when she made a diving stop on a shot by sophomore forward Jazmin Grant in the 88th minute for her only stop of the second half.
Odom matched her season high with five saves.

The Tigers launched 14 of their 27 total shots during the second half but were unable to send one past junior goalkeeper Samantha Cude, who finished with nine saves, including three in overtime.

CC accumulated a 27-10 advantage in total shots and a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

Colorado College improved to 7-1 all-time against the Cougars, including a 5-0-0 mark in games played in Colorado Springs.

The Tigers kick off their Mountain West schedule on Friday, Sept. 21, at San Jose State University at 7 p.m. PT. The two-game trip to California concludes on Sunday against Fresno State at noon PT.
