Hand’s Header Lifts Tigers Past Fresno State

Jacqui Hand's header in the 39th minute proved to be the difference on Sunday afternoon as Colorado College defeated Fresno State, 1-0, in central California.

The Tigers improved to 5-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Mountain West.

Hand connected on a cross from freshman forward Kiley Suter and sent the ball past senior goalkeeper Nicole Theroux.

The goal was the second of the season for Hand as well as the first game winner for the New Zealand product.

It marked the second time this season Hand and Suter linked up for a CC goal. The duo clicked for the first time on Sept. 7 at then-No. 5 Texas A&M University.

One goal was all the Tigers needed thanks to another impressive defense effort.

Colorado College allowed just two shots on goal, which matched the fewest in a game first set on Aug. 24 in the 2-0 win against Texas A&M Corpus Christi at Stewart Field

Jade Odom stopped both shots while posting her third clean sheet of the season. The sophomore goalkeeper denied a shot by Mellisa Ellis in the 13th minute and wasn't tested again until midway through the second half on a shot by Danya Gutierrez.

Odom lowered her goals-against average to 0.86 and improved her saves percentage to .811.

The Tigers launched 16 total shots, compared to only six for Fresno State.

Theroux stopped 10 shots for the Bulldogs, who slipped to 1-7-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.

Fresno State finished with an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Colorado College return home next week to host UNLV and the University of Nevada on Friday, Sept. 28, and Sunday, Sept. 30, respectively.
