Sophomore defender
Tayla Wheeler scored on a header in the 75th minute to give Colorado College a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over UNLV on Friday afternoon at Stewart Field.
Wheeler headed home a cross from freshman forward
Kiley Suter, who took one touch after receiving a short corner kick from senior midfielder
Lauren Milliet.
CC improved to 6-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Mountain West.
It was the second game-winning goal of the season for Wheeler, both of which occurred on headers off set pieces. The first was in the 2-1 win at the University of Northern Colorado in the season opener.
Suter registered her second consecutive game-winning assist as well as her third overall. She set up freshman forward
Jacqui Hand's goal during last Sunday's 1-0 win at Fresno State.
Milliet leveled the score at 1-1 in the 63rd minute when she scored from the penalty spot with a right-footed shot to the left side of the net.
With her assist on Wheeler's game winner, Milliet now has factored in 13 game-winning goals, scoring six and setting up seven.
With three points in the game, Milliet became the 19th Tiger to record 50 or more career points. She now holds sole possession of 18th place on the program's career list with 51. She also climbed into a tie for 14th place with 18 career goals and 13th place with 15 assists.
This season, Wheeler and Milliet are tied for the team lead with three goals apiece. Milliet leads CC with four assists, while Suter is tied with junior midfielder Lucia Constanza for second with three apiece.
The Rebels broke through in the 19th minute when junior forward Michaela Morris scored on a penalty kick, but that was the only goal the MW scoring leaders would get.
Colorado College finished with a 15-13 edge in total shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore
Jade Odom stopped two shots in each half while recording her sixth victory of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Emberly Sevilla made six saves for the Rebels, the best of which occurred early in the 42nd minute when she leaped to tip a shot by freshman forward
Abby Hubbard over the crossbar.
UNLV, which slipped to 7-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference, visits Air Force on Sunday.
The Tigers play host to the University of Nevada on Sunday at noon MT.
