Kristian Blumenschein picked a great time to score his first goal of the 2018-19 campaign.

Blumenschein capped a third-period rally with a 5-on-3 goal with 3:22 remaining in the third period to give Colorado College a 3-2 victory and a weekend sweep over Miami Saturday in Oxford, Ohio.

The junior defenseman took a pass from
Mason Bergh and blasted a shot from the high slot past Miami goalie Jordan Uhelski to give the Tigers their first regular-season road sweep since Nov. 2-3, 2012, at Wisconsin and first sweep of an NCHC opponent since Dec. 4-5, 2015, at home against Miami.

The Tigers (10-12-3, 4-7-2 NCHC) trailed 2-1 entering the third period, but
Cole McCaskill scored just 1:26 into the period after taking a pass across the crease from
Alex Berardinelli to tie the game at 2-2.

Each team had a power play opportunity midway through the final frame, but could not capitalize.

Miami's Casey Gilling was called for interference with 5:20 remaining, then Andrew Sinard kicked
Trey Bradley's stick while it laid on the ice for another interference call 37 seconds later to give CC its two-man advantage. Blumenschein's first career game-winning goal came with just two seconds remaining on the 5-on-3 and allowed the Tigers to stay on the power play for another 35 seconds.

Along with
Ben Israel's opening goal just 3:54 into the contest, the CC defensive corps accounted for all three goals Saturday night after scoring just three in the first 24 games.

"It was great to see our defensemen jump up into the play tonight," head coach
Mike Haviland said. "That last one was a cannon from Blumey."

Israel opened the scoring when he took
Trey Bradley's pass from behind the net and blasted a one-timer from the high slot past Uhelski.
Troy Conzo also assisted on the play.

The RedHawks answered late in the first period when Scott Corbett skated into the Tiger zone and placed a wrister from the top of the right circle into the lower left corner of the net past CC goalie
Alex Leclerc with 1:50 remaining in the frame.

Miami's Derek Daschke scored the only goal of the second period, a power-play tally at the 12:25 mark. Daschke scored on a wrister from the top of the left circle past a screened Leclerc to give the RedHawks a 2-1 advantage.

"This is what you get in our conference," Haviland said. "We found a way to win and hopefully give us the confidence to win close games."

Leclerc finished with 21 saves and CC outshot the RedHawks, 34-23. Uhelski made 31 saves for Miami (9-13-4, 3-9-2-1 NCHC).

The Tigers, who jumped into sixth place in the NCHC with this weekend's sweep, play their first home game since Dec. 8 with a weekend series against Minnesota Duluth, Feb. 1-2, at the Broadmoor World Arena.

"It will be a challenge to play Duluth and St. Cloud State the next two weekends," Haviland said. "We are going to enjoy this one tonight then get back to work on Monday."
