Gertz' Double-Double Not Enough to Overcome 'Roos

Bryce Frank led all players 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Austin College to a 79-54 victory over Colorado College Saturday night at Reid Arena.

Kacie West and Reagan Chiaverini added 18 and 16 points, respectively, as the 'Roos remained the only undefeated team in the SCAC with a 4-0 mark and improved to 11-2 overall.

Sophomore McKenzee Gertz led Colorado College (8-7, 5-2 SCAC) with 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

The 'Roos took control late in the second quarter. After CC senior Casey Torbet hit a layup to cut the lead to 28-23 with 4:00 remaining in the frame, Austin went on a 14-0 run, sparked by three 3-pointers from West, to take a 42-23 lead with 51 seconds left. The 'Roos shot 66.7 percent (12-for-18) from the field in the quarter and led 44-25 at halftime.

Austin extended the lead in the second half as Frank scored six points in the third quarter then added another eight in the final 10 minutes as the Tigers did not have an answer for her inside presence. She was 11-for-19 from the field and the 'Roos outscored CC, 42-10, in the paint.

Chiaverini added six rebounds and a team-high six assists, while Ann Savage added seven boards and five assists. Austin College recorded an assist on 26 of its 33 field goals and forced 22 turnovers.

Sophomore Jade Odom also scored 12 points for the Tigers, while junior Nia Duplain collected 10 rebounds for her third double-digit output of the season. Torbet led the team with five assists.

With a pair of three-pointers, Gertz improved her two-season total to 105 and climbed into third place on the school's career list, surpassing Emily Wattman-Turner (2008-11) who posted a three-year total of 104.

Colorado College concludes its season-long five-game home stand on Friday, Jan. 11, against Trinity University.
