Tigers Shine Under Stewart Field Lights

Box Score

The Colorado College women's soccer team had a lot to play for on Friday night against Colorado State University.

The Tigers were driven to christen the new and improved Stewart Field with a victory. They wanted to win for the six seniors who were honored in a post-game ceremony. But most of all, they wanted to earn three points to continue their pursuit of a Mountain West championship.

CC accomplished all of its goals thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Rams.

With the victory, Colorado College improved to 7-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Mountain West.

Sophomore forward Jacqui Hand struck for the game's only goal 27 minutes into the contest. It turned out to be her third game-winner of the season.

Senior forward Catie McDonald began the sequence when stepped around a defender and slipped a pass to sophomore forward Kiley Suter on the right side of the box. Suter took a couple of touches and sent a crossing pass to the left side, where Hand was waiting to strike with a first-touch shot past goalkeeper Gabi McDonald.

At the other of the pitch, first-year goalkeeper Abby Opperman stopped all seven shots the Rams put on target while recording her fourth clean sheet of the season and her second in three conference games.

Her best save occurred in the 74th minute when she got a hand on Ali Murphy Pauletto's shot from the edge of the six-yard box to deflect the ball past the near post.

Opperman lowered her goals-against average to 0.53 and improved her saves percentage to .875.

The Tigers finished with 19 shots, compared to 11 for Colorado State.
