Middle hitters George Mullins and
Emma Hewlin combined for 22 kills and a .514 attack percentage as No. 9 Colorado College posted a 25-9, 25-23, 25-20 victory over Austin College in the first of two matches on Sunday at Schreiner University.
CC improved to 17-2 and 8-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with its 10th consecutive overall victory.
Mullins hit .556 with 11 kills on 18 swings with only one error. It marked the fourth time this season she recorded double-digit kills and hit .500 or better at the same time.
Hewlin tied her season high with 11 kills on 19 attempts with just two misfires, good for a .474 clip.
Mullins and Hewlin also had a hand in three blocked shots apiece.
Jordan Mullen also reached double digits with 10 kills and the senior outside hitter completed her third double-double of the season with a match-high 15 digs. Mullen also recorded four block assists and tied her season high of four aces.
Mullen had four kills in the first set when the Tigers scored the first six points and raced to a 16-6 lead.
In the second set, Austin led 19-18 after a Colorado College error, but a Mullins kill ignited a 5-0 run and the Tigers closed out the set with a pair of kills from Hewlin.
The 'Roos did their best to extend the match, but freshman outside hitter
Meaghan Hohman recorded three kills, a block and an assist to trigger an 8-1 run that put CC ahead to stay.
Austin closed to within a point at 16-15, only to see the Tigers close out the match with a 9-5 surge.
