For the second week in a row, the Colorado College women's soccer team turned in a dominating Sunday performance and had nothing but heartache to show for its efforts.
Despite a 27-11 advantage in total shots and a 10-5 margin in corner kicks, the Tigers came out on the wrong end of a 3-2 result after Wyoming's Summer Taube converted a penalty kick with 69 seconds remaining in regulation.
The real heroes for the Cowgirls were sophomore goalkeepers Hannah Lee and Riley Furbush, who were under sustained duress throughout the game.
After sophomore midfielder
Toni Tsamasfyros gave the Tigers their second lead with a spectacular re-direct of a cross from
Jenna Wilt, Furbush got the tips of her gloves on a 35-yard direct kick by sophomore midfielder
Abby Hubbard to keep CC from adding a third goal.
Nearly five minutes later, Taube leveled the score at 2-2 when she knocked home Elaine Webber's corner kick near the far post.
Colorado College came within inches of netting the go-ahead goal early in the 82nd minute when senior forward
Catie McDonald created space on the right side and sent a shot from 22 yards over the crossbar.
Furbish made two more saves during the final minute, including a tip on sophomore forward
Jacqui Hand's high crossing shot with 40 seconds remaining.
The Tigers broke through in the fourth minute when Hubbard curled a shot from 25 yards out on the left side past Lee inside the far post.
A little more than six minutes later, Amber Vokoun leveled the score when she knocked in the rebound of a shot that CC starting goalkeeper
Abby Opperman tipped into the far side of the box.
The Tigers slipped to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
