Will Mallory struck for the only goal No. 22 Colorado College needed as the Tigers advanced to the championship game of the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a 2-0 victory over Austin College on Saturday afternoon.
CC will play for it's first-ever SCAC Championship and an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship at 1 p.m. Sunday against Texas Lutheran University. The Bulldogs defeated Trinity University, 2-0, in the second semifinal match.
Mallory scored the difference maker early in the 33rd minute after collecting a cross from
Skyler Stark-Ragsdale, who beat an Austin defender to the right end line. He sent a pass on the ground that Mallory finished first time with his left foot into the upper left corner of the goal.
It was Mallory's third game winner of the season and the sixth of his career.
John Schuler scored from the penalty spot with 6:10 to play after
Kevin Peterson was taken down in the box by a 'Roos defender.
Senior
Keller Mochel made a pair of saves while recording his third shutout of the season and the 17th of his career. He stopped a shot by Ahmet Ramovic 15:15 into the game and wasn't tested again until only 3:10 remained in the second half.
The 'Roos, who could not penetrate the Tiger defense at full strength, went a man down when goalkeeper Juan Rodriguez came off his line to challenge
Griffin Meyer and drew the foul that resulted in a red card.
Colorado College allowed only two more shots from that point on, neither of which were on target, as the Tigers posted their eighth clean sheet of the season.
CC earned its first appearance in the SCAC Championship since 2016 and the program's fourth overall.
