Colorado College dominated prevailed in almost every facet of Friday's season opener at No. 13 Christopher Newport University, but the Captains utilized a 16-save performance by goaltender Scott McAneney to record a 16-9 victory on Friday afternoon.

A six-goal outburst by the Captains during the latter stages of the second quarter proved to be the difference.

After the Tigers scored four consecutive goals to level the count at 4-4 early in the second quarter, the Captains reclaimed the lead 19 seconds later in a goal by Campbell Pozin. CNU tacked on five more goals before halftime, including one by Brady Altobello with just 25 seconds remaining before halftime.

Brice Tucker made five saves for CC.

"We played well at times, but made a lot of errors that led to transition for CNU," Woods said. "It definitely looked like our first game. We will learn a lot from this one."

Colorado College travels to Baltimore on Sunday for a showdown with No. 14 Stevens Institute of Technology. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University.
