CC Drops Heartbreaker at Western New England

Western New England's man-down goal with 6:34 remaining snapped a 12-12 tie and proved to be the difference in a back-and-forth game against Colorado College on Friday afternoon.

CC appeared to have the momentum after Tyler Borko leveled the score with his team-leading third goal of the game and WNE's Josh Salem earned a one-minute penalty for slashing.

Instead of getting a chance to take the lead, the Tigers watched as Hunter Cocks won the draw, picked up the ground ball and struck for the game-winning goal in a span of nine seconds.

CC had its chances during the final six minutes, but Sean McCusker made saves on shots by John Sutro and Tom Haller to keep the Golden Bears in front.

The Tigers took a 10-9 lead when Coby Petau struck for his second goal of the contest 1:37 into the fourth quarter, however WNE answered with three goals in a span of 3:07 to take a two-goal cushion for the second time.

Max Rieser's third goal cut the Colorado College deficit in half and then Borko leveled the score 64 seconds later.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first quarter, the Tigers scored six of the next eight goals during a 16-minute span to build a 6-4 lead after 30 minutes.

With three goals and an assist, Borko reached the 50-point mark for the second year in a row and set a personal single-season high with a team-high 51.

Borko climbed into a tie with Austin Davie (2014-17) for 12th place on CC's career list with 176 points.

Andrew Harwood stopped 14 shots for the Tigers, his seventh game this season with double-digit saves.

Western New England won 21 of 29 faceoffs, all by Cocks, and finished with a 38-28 edge in ground balls. The added possessions resulted in a 46-41 edge in total shots.

In addition to his game winner, Cocks grabbed a game-high 14 ground balls.

McCusker stopped nine shots for the Golden Bears, who improved to 11-5.

Kevin Faustich caused four turnovers to lead the WNE defensive effort.

The Tigers play their regular-season finale at Connecticut College on Sunday.
