BYU Pulls Away in Second Half to Top Tigers

Box Score Colorado College kept BYU off the score sheet for a little more than 46 minutes, but the Cougars caught fire in the second half and pulled away for a 4-0 victory in an exhibition match on Saturday night.

First-year goalkeeper Abby Opperman turned aside three shots for the Tigers during 70:34 of action.

Elise Flake put BYU on the board 1:15 into the second half and scored again just over 13 minutes later after taking a touch from SaraJayne Affleck.

Alyssa Jefferson made it 3-0 in the 73rd minute, and Makaylie Moore closed out the scoring with 9:24 to play.

The Cougars finished with a 27-4 advantage in total shots and a 7-1 edge in shots on target.

CC's best scoring opportunity occurred in the 29th minute when Kiley Suter's shot from the bottom of the box was stopped by BYU starting keeper Sabrina Davis.

Cassidy Smith kept the clean sheet intact when she denied Ansley Queen's shot from the center of the box in the final seconds.  

Colorado College, which completed its exhibition slate with a 1-1 record, plays its first official game of the 2019 season on Friday, Aug. 23, against Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi at Washburn Field.
