Lauren Milliet Chosen by Racing Louisville FC in NWSL Expansion Draft

Former Colorado College standout Lauren Milliet was selected by Racing Louisville FC in Thursday's National Women's Soccer League expansion draft.

Milliet played two seasons with the North Carolina Courage, which drafted her in the second round of the 2019 NWSL College Draft as the 14th overall selection.

Milliet appeared in 10 matches with the Courage and was part of North Carolina's 2019 championship team. Most recently, she played 278 minutes during four appearances in the Fall Series and recorded an assist against the Orlando Pride on Oct. 17.

"Lauren has the potential to run any midfield in the NWSL," North Carolina head coach Paul Riley said. "She has developed tremendously well and improved in so many departments. She will be sorely missed in Courage Country both on and off the field, but we know she will be a huge success in her new home. She is a quality player with the desire and soccer IQ to be a major piece in Louisville's midfield. We wish her all the best and I'm excited to see where she can reach."

Milliet finished her Colorado College career tied for 11th place in program history with 16 career assists, tied for 12th with 21 goals and holds sole possession of 13th place with 58 points.
The two-time co-captain factored in 15 game winners, scoring eight and setting up seven.

Prior to her first official appearance as a Tiger, Milliet was part of the Colorado College side that competed as Team USA at the 2015 World University Games. In the tournament opener in Gwangju, Korea, Milliet struck for the only goal in Team USA's 1-0 victory over South Africa.

Less than two months later, she became the first CC freshman to record a game-winning goal in her first collegiate game since 2010 when she struck for the only goal in the 1-0 victory over the University of Northern Colorado.

"I am extremely excited about this new challenge for Lauren," Colorado College head coach Geoff Bennett said. "Lauren grew immensely during her tenure with the NC Courage and now may be the perfect time in her career to take that next big step forward. I know she will bring a high level of professionalism to Racing Louisville FC and make that team better."

Milliet joins Tobin Heath and Christen Press, each of whom won the World Cup with the U.S. Women's National Team in both 2015 and 2019, as part of Louisville's 14-player draft.

Racing Louisville FC is set to begin play in 2021 at Lynn Family Stadium. The team is owned by Soccer Holdings LLC, which also owns Louisville City FC of the USL.
