Tigers Knocked Out of SCAC Championship

McKenzee Gertz poured in a game-high 25 points to help Colorado College overcame a 12-point deficit, but Southwestern University capitalized on foul trouble among CC's front line and the Pirates escaped with a 74-73 victory in a first-round game at the 2020 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship on Friday night.

After Gertz connected on a turn-around jumper from the baseline to give the Tigers a 73-72 lead with 17 seconds remaining, Naomi Brown scored in the paint at the other end to give SU a one-point lead.

On Colorado College's final possession, freshman Anna Fanelli's runner with three seconds to play rolled off the rim and Rosie Braley was unable to launch a shot before time expired.

Gertz finished the game with 490 points, which ranks seventh on the program's single-season list. Her three-year total of 1,232 is 10th on the career list.

In her final game as a Tiger, Jordan Meltzer finished with 13 points and climbed into 31st place with 714 career points.

Fanelli produced eight points, seven rebounds and six assists. She completed her debut season with 138 assists, which ranks third on the program's single-season list.
