Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Athletic Communications

Seniors Lead Tigers Past Baldwin Wallace

Playing what most likely was the final game of their careers, the six seniors who suited up for the Colorado College men's lacrosse team made sure they and the Tigers went out on a winning note.

Attackman Coby Petau and midfielder Max Rieser combined for seven goals and a pair of assists, defender Cooper Lee posted game highs of five ground balls and three turnovers, and goalkeeper Andrew Harwood recorded a season-high 16 saves to lead CC to a hard-fought 14-10 victory over Baldwin Wallace University on Thursday afternoon at Washburn Field.

With his first goal 1:17 into the game off a feed from Rieser, Petau became the 13th player in program history to score 100 or more career goals. He capped his four-goal performance 3:05 into the fourth quarter, converting on a pass from Conrad Song to climb into a tie for 12th place with former teammate Tyler Borko, who completed his career with 103.

Harwood recorded double-digits for the second time this season and the 25th time in his career.

Ben Schwaeber won eight of 15 faceoffs and picked up a pair of ground balls, while captain Ross Goldberg scooped up one ground ball.

Colorado College got out of the gate quickly and needed just over six minutes to build a 4-1 lead after Luca Lietti struck for the first of his two goals with 8:56 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Just when it looked as if the Tigers were going to roll to their sixth lopsided victory, Drew Braden scored twice in a little more than two minutes to pull the Yellow Jackets to within 4-3.

Petau's man-up goal as the first quarter gave CC a two goal lead, and then Rieser and Petau scored early in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 7-3 cushion. However, BW scored three of the next four goals to close to within 8-6 after 30 minutes.

The scoring barrage slowed in the third quarter thanks to big-time saves from Harwood and Baldwin Wallace freshman Joe Storner, who tied the school record with 21 stops.

Colorado College began to create some separation early in the fourth quarter on goals by Petau and Conrad song, and after Braden got one back with for the Yellow Jackets with his fifth of the game, tallies by Makay Hansen and Rieser gave the Tigers their largest lead at 14-9 with 1:59 to play.

Coach's Comments
"It was a rollercoaster of emotions with our seniors potentially playing their last game," head coach Sean Woods said. "I was very proud that we got that win as there was a lot on the line - staying undefeated, seniors last game, etc. Ross, Andrew, Cooper, Max, Ben and Coby were not going to let us lose that game. Their leadership this season, along with injured senior Jack O'Donnell, has been top shelf and we needed it today. This is a very special group."
