Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Athletic Communications

Tigers Fall to No. 5 Wesleyan

Thanks in part to a 12-save performance from Alena Stern, the Colorado College women's lacrosse team gave No. 5 Wesleyan University all it could handle for 38 minutes. However, the Cardinals pulled away during the final 21 minutes to record an 18-7 victory that was much more competitive than the final score indicates.

Avery Bell scored two of her season-high three goals during the opening 2:05 of the second half, each of which pulled the Tigers to within a point.

Unfortunately, after Bell scored off a feed from Emmeline Kelly to make the score 8-7 with 27:55 to play, CC's attack went silent, thanks in part to four yellow cards which gave the Cardinals an extra player for nearly half of the remaining time.

Sydney Prokupek doubled Wesleyan's lead with 21:36 to go, then free-position goals by Kendall Mittleman and Abby Manning extended Cardinals' cushion to 11-7. Manning led Wesleyan with five goals, three of which came on free-position attempts.

As a team, the Cardinals converted on nine of 14 free-position opportunities, while Colorado College was just 1-for-5.

Stern posted double-digit saves for the second time this season and the 15th time in her career. Three of her saves came on free-position shots.

Wesleyan put the game out of reach with three goals in a span of 1:44 inside the final 10 minutes.

The Tigers were given eight yellow cards, compared one for Wesleyan, and was on the wrong end of a 37-22 count in fouls.

After the Cardinals scored 3:12 into the game, CC answered with tallies from Bell and Bella Beattie to grab a 2-1 lead. Beattie finished with two goals and an assist.

Four consecutive goals gave the Cardinals a 6-2 lead, however Colorado College scored three in a row to pull to within 6-5 on a goal by Eva King.
