The Mountain West Board of Directors wrapped up its virtual spring meeting Monday, during which it took action on several items integral to the business of the Conference and national issues in intercollegiate athletics. 
  
Colorado College joined the Mountain West in women's soccer prior to the 2014 season and has appeared in the conference tournament three times. The following measures are directly related to women's soccer:
 
• Elimination of the six-team conference tournament championship
• Automatic Qualifying Determination – highest conference winning pct. with tiebreakers
• Utilize existing full conference regular-season schedule at 11 games
 
The league approved several cost-containment measures brought forward by the MW Directors of Athletics addressing the financial challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The measures identified options that can realize savings in both the Mountain West operating budget and within individual institutional athletics department budgets. All measures are designed exclusively for the 2020-21 academic year. Evaluation will be ongoing to determine if revisions are necessary in real time and/or moving forward.
 
"We have been in strong communication with the Mountain West as the women's soccer group has assessed possible impacts for the upcoming year," Colorado College Vice President and Director of Athletics Lesley Irvine said. "The decision to eliminate the conference tournament is a difficult one, however, we recognize we are still scheduled for a full conference season that can lead to postseason opportunities. The COVID-19 impact continues to evolve and we are glad to be a part of a conference that is working proactively and creatively to address these things during challenging times."
