The Colorado College volleyball team prevailed in a back-to-back Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches on Saturday, defeating host University of St. Thomas and Texas Lutheran University in four sets.
Georgia Mullins put down a match-high 16 kills and had a hand in five blocks to lead the Tigers to a 25-16, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22 victory over UST in their first match of the day.
Isabella Lipacis finished with 11 kills and 12 digs, and added four total blocks against the Celts.
Jenny Jenks dished out 41 assists and matched
Meaghan Hohman with a team-leading 18 digs.
CC blocked nine shots and held St. Thomas to a .097 team hitting percentage.
Alyssa Ajlouny recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs to lead St. Thomas.
Colorado College started the match with a 6-0 run and was never threatened in the first set.
Freshman outside hitter Kellie put away four kills on eight swings, including a pair to cap a 7-3 run that closed out the second set.
Lauren Arthur had five kills on five attempts to help the Celts take the third set, but Lipacis produced two kills and a block late in the fourth set to help CC close out the match.
Lipacis recorded her seventh double-double of the season to lead Colorado College to a 25-17, 23-25, 25-10, 25-23 victory over Texas Lutheran in the second match.
Mullins added 14 kills and had a hand in all three of CC's blocks.
Kelley Kandziora added nine kills, while Hohman added eight.
Freshman right-side hitter
Delaney Rach hit. 500 with seven kills on an error-free 14 attacks.
Peyton Hummel led the defensive effort with 19 digs, while Jenks finished with 18.
The Tigers hit .385 with just two errors while cruising during the first set.
Colorado College built an early 12-6 lead in the second, only to see the Bulldogs rally behind the hitting of Maddy Schwartz, who had four of her team-high 11 kills.
Mullins had five kills on eight swings as the Tigers rolled in the third set, then Lipacis, Mullins and Rach combined for 11 kills to help CC hold off Texas Lutheran in the fourth.
Colorado College returns to Texas next week for four matches at Austin College in Sherman. The Tigers face the University of Dallas and Centenary College on Friday, then face host Austin and St. Thomas on Saturday.
