Colorado College, Southwestern Battle to 0-0 Draw

The Colorado College men's soccer team controlled Sunday's game from a statistical perspective, but a remarkable performance by the Southwestern goalkeeper forced the Tigers to settle for a 0-0 draw.

CC put eight of its 21 total shots on target, only to see junior keeper Jack Viles steer all of them away. Viles also received some much-needed help from the right post and crossbar.

The Tigers had an opportunity to take the lead in the 37th minute, but Viles made a pair of saves on shots by Sajji Singh to keep Colorado College off the board. First, he made a diving save toward the left post to stop Singh's penalty kick, and seconds later he scrambled toward the right post to prevent Singh's header off the rebound from going in.

The Tigers nearly took the lead in the 63rd minute, but Vincent Luglio's blast from the 23 yards out hit the inside the of the right post and came out on the left side of the box.

A little more than two minutes into the second overtime, Gabe Kellman came within an inch of scoring the Golden Goal when he launched a rocket from the left side that smacked the crossbar.

The last time Colorado College played to a 0-0 tie was Oct. 22, 2017, against Texas Lutheran University at Stewart Field.

It marked the second year in a row CC and Southwestern played to a draw. Last year's game in Georgetown, Texas, ended in a 1-1 score.

At the other end of the pitch, the Colorado College defense allowed just one shot on goal for the third time this season. It also marked the seventh time this year an opponent had fewer than five shots on target.
Keleher Felton, who made his only save during the first overtime, recorded his second clean sheet of the season and the seventh of his career.

There just seemed to be a lid on the goal today. I think we improved as a team this weekend and continue to move in the right direction."
