Kinney Leads Tigers with 15 Points, but CC Falls at Whittier

Senior forward Sam Kinney led the Colorado College men's basketball team with 15 points, but his efforts were not enough to get the Tigers past Whittier College on Friday night.

Nick Colosi and Ahmad Young scored 21 points apiece as the Poets came from behind to post an 88-75 victory in a non-conference game.

CC led 30-22 after Isaac Zachem buried a three pointer with a little more than five minutes remaining in the first half, but Whittier utilized a 16-5 surge to take a three-point lead on Young's three-pointer with six seconds to play.

Scott Cunningham, who finished with 14 points, connected on a three-pointer as time expired to tie the score at 38-38 after 20 minutes.

The Tigers were within a point at 43-42 after Alex Russo dialed long distance 1:17 into the second half, but the Poets answered with 11 consecutive points to open a 12-point lead with 15:24 to play.

After trailing by as many as 19 points, Colorado College clawed its way back to within 12 points when Scott Ruegg completed a three-point play with 8:19 remaining, but that was as close as the Tigers would get.
