Colorado College's bid to sweep a Minnesota weekend fell short with a 4-0 loss to sixth-ranked St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Â
Easton Brodzinski scored twice for the home team and the Tigers, who upset No. 8 Minnesota Duluth 2-1 on Thursday, could not get the puck past SCSU goalie David Hrenak, who finished the game with 23 saves.
Â
The Huskies (14-8) got all the scoring they needed in the first 20 minutes. Brodzinski opened the gates at the 6:10 mark of the first period, beating CC goalie
Dominic Basse from inside the right circle after taking a cross-ice pass from Nolan Walker. Walker then doubled the SCSU lead with a power-play goal at 13:50 of the opening frame.
Â
Colorado College had three power-play opportunities in the second period and another midway through the third, but could not solve the Husky penalty kill. The Tigers finished 0-for-5 with a man advantage, while the Huskies were 1-for-3.
Â
Kevin Fitzgerald made it 3-0 when he capitalized on a 3-on-1 rush with 7:09 remaining in the final period and Brodzinski notched his second of the game with an empty-netter with just under two minutes left in the contest.
Â
Basse completed the game with 22 saves as the Huskies outshot CC, 26-23.
Â
The Tigers (4-14-2) return home to resume the Gold Pan series with the University of Denver on Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Broadmoor World Arena, beginning at 7 p.m.
