The Colorado College women's lacrosse team stayed within striking distance for the first 22 minutes, but a pair of five-goal runs propelled CU-Colorado Springs to a 17-7 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Washburn Field.
Sophie Murphy's first goal of the season off a feed from
Bridget Hanley pulled the Tigers to within 5-3 with 7:19 remaining in the first half, but UCCS responded with five consecutive goals in a four-minute span to extend its lead to seven after 30 minutes.
CC kept the Mountain Lions off the board during the first eight minutes of the second half and goals by Hanley and
Annie Tucker trimmed the Mountain Lions' lead to 10-5 with a little more than 22 minutes to play. However, a second 5-0 run gave
UCCS a double-digit lead and the Tigers never got closer than nine in the final 12 minutes.
Hanley factored in Colorado College's first four scores and led the team with four points on two goals and a pair of assists two assists.

Natalie Slade made eight saves in the first half, while
Avery Newton stopped eight shots during the final 30 minutes in her first career appearance in goal.
Hayley Heinecken led Colorado College with three draw controls, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
CU-Colorado Springs finished with a 50-34 advantage in total shots, while the Tigers had a 27-24 edge in ground balls.
The Mountain Lions were 5-for-12 on free-position shots, while Colorado College was 1-for-5. Â
