The University of Portland scored three goals during the first 15 minutes and went on to record a 3-0 victory over the Colorado College women's soccer team on Saturday night at Merlo Field.
 
Taryn Ries put the Pilots on the board in the fourth minute when she knocked in the rebound of a Nyota Katembo shot.
 
In the 13th minute, Portland doubled its lead when Nedya Sawan gathered in a long pass from Cally Togiai and put a shot from the right side of the box into the top shelf.
 
Less than two minutes later, Togiai dribbled in from the left side and tucked a high shot under the crossbar from 20 yards out in the center of the field.
 
Midway through the first half, the Tigers won four consecutive corner kicks and narrowly missed getting on the board when a header by Toni Tsamasfyros went inches wide of the post.  
 
In her first start of the season, Ally Wakeman made one save during the first 45 minutes.
 
Taryn Benham came on at halftime and made a pair of saves during the second half.
 
CC finished with a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks while each team produced nine shots.
 
Coaches Comments
"We have stared slowly out of the gates and that's something we need to fix," head coach Geoff Bennett said. "You won't be successful playing out of a big hole. We made some good adjustments at halftime and played much better in the second half. It would have been easy to pack it in, but to our players credit, they played really hard in the second half."
 
Colorado College Standouts
Haley Harnisch led the Tigers with three shots, two of which were on target.
Freshman defender Ava Risser made her first start and played all 90 minutes.
 
University of Portland Standouts
Goaltender Bre Norris made four saves.
Nedya Sawan and Cally Togiai each put two shots on goal.
 
Notes
The Tigers dropped to 0-5-0.
The Pilots leveled their record at 3-3-0.

Colorado College returns home to play host to Arizona State University and the Southern Utah University on Friday, Sept 17, and Sunday, Sept. 19, respectively.
