Tigers Fall to No. 20 Arizona State On Overtime Penalty Kick

The Colorado College women's soccer team played a near perfect game against No. 20 Arizona State, but saw its effort go unrewarded thanks to an penalty kick with less than four minutes remaining in the second overtime.

ASU's Nicole Douglas fell while cutting around a CC defender in the left side of the penalty area, and the referee pointed to the spot.

Douglas put the ensuing penalty kick in the right side of the net for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

The game was a statistical draw with the Sun Devils leading in total shots, 10-9, while the Tigers had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Colorado College's Taryn Benham and ASU's Birta Gudlaugs each finished with four saves.

CC's best scoring opportunities occurred 11 minutes into the second half on shots by Lily Byrne and Kiley Suter 45 seconds apart.

Benham kept the game level in the 60th minute when she made a diving save on a Douglas shot from the right side of the box.
