The Colorado College women's soccer team battled Fresno State for 110 minutes, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw in its Mountain West opener on Friday night at Stewart Field.
The Tigers broke through in the 23rd minute when senior forward
Jacqui Hand got on the end of a cross from sophomore forward
Lily Byrne, and used her body to deflect the ball into the open net from the center of the six-yard.
Byrne, who leads CC with five points, made a series of dazzling moves to work herself free along the right touch line before sending the cross into the box.
The lead held up until late in the 78th minute when Jordan Brown ran down an over-the-top pass from Chais Wright and chipped a shot over Colorado College goalkeeper
Taryn Benham into the net.
The Tigers launched the only three shots during the first overtime, but were unable to get a ball past Fresno State goalkeeper Ella Wilson, who came on at halftime and played the final 65 minutes.
Each team had a pair of shots during the second-10-minute period and finished the game with 13 total shots.
CC recorded an 8-6 edge in corner kicks, including three that were earned during the 20 minutes of overtime.

"It was a tough battle," head coach
Geoff Bennett said. "A typical Mountain West Conference game – tight, hard fought and competitive. We are disappointed about not getting the three points tonight, so our sole purpose when we wake up tomorrow is to go to San Jose and get back the points we didn't get tonight."
