First-Year Tigers Fuel Offense In 3-0 Victory at Schreiner

The Colorado College men's soccer team utilized a suffocating defensive effort and another impressive offensive performance from its first-year players to record a 3-0 victory at Schreiner University on Sunday.

Vincent Luglio struck for the only goal that CC needed in the 12th minute, scoring his team-leading third game winner after taking a touch from Gabe Kellman and put a shot to the lower left with his right foot from about 15 yards out.

It marked the fifth time this season a pair of first-year Tigers combined on a goal and the third time Luglio scored off a touch from Kellman.

Luglio extended his goal scoring streak to three games and now leads the team with five goals and 11 points. Kellman is second with 10 points and tied for second with three goals.

Freshman midfielder Will Sylvain came off the bench to add an insurance goal, the first of his career, in the 38th minute.

Alex Meyerhoff hit a hard, low shot that that Mountaineer goalkeeper Kameryn Roehrig saved, but gave up a rebound. Sylvain slotted it first time on the ground to the low right from about eight yards.

Seven first-year Tigers now have combined for 11 goals and seven assists through the first eight games of their careers.

Sajji Singh closed out the scoring in the 84th minute when he found the net with his first career penalty kick.

Kevin Peterson drew the penalty by slipping past a defender on the end line and getting clipped from behind.

Singh extended his point streak to four games during which he produced a goal and six assists. He leads the Tigers with seven assists and is third with nine points.

The CC defense allowed seven total shots, only one of which was on target. It marked the fifth time this season the Tigers held an opponent to fewer than 10 shots and less than five shots on goal.

Keleher Felton made one save while recording his sixth career clean sheet.

Coaches Comments
"We bounced back nicely today," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We created a lot of good chances despite our tired legs and finished just enough of them. Our freshmen continue to make big contributions on both sides of the ball, and it's been fun to watch them develop so quickly."
