Last Time Out
The Tigers split a pair of games against #19 Minnesota Duluth last weekend at Ed Robson Arena ... On Friday,
Stanley Cooley and Noah Laba each scored twice and Kaidan Mbereko posted his first career shutout to lead CC to a 5-0 victory.
Hunter McKown opened the scoring with his national-leading sixth power-play goal just 4:14 into the contest. He fired a shot from the top of the left circle that deflected off the shoulder of UMD goalie Zach Stejskal and into the net. Cooley notched the first of his career-high two tallies at 7:17 when
Tyler Coffey took a shot from the right circle that Stejskal saved, but Cooley was right on the doorstep for the rebound. Cooley then scored a power-play goal at 9:45 with another rebound goal, this time off a shot by
Matthew Gleason. Laba continued his hot start with his second two-goal effort of the '22-23 campaign. He made it 4-0 with just over five minutes to play and chased Stejskal from the game after stealing the puck along the left boards, cutting in front of the net and putting the puck in the net. Laba scored the game's final goal at the 15:02 mark of the second period after another UMD turnover in its own zone. Coffey collected his second assist of the night on the play. Mbereko was outstanding in his fourth career start, stopping a career-high 34 shots, including a game-high seven by Ben Steeves ... On Saturday, Mbereko made 32 saves but the Bulldogs edged CC, 3-1. Owen Gallatin had a goal and an assist and Derek Daschke added a pair of assists. The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead as
Bryan Yoon scored his first goal of the season at the 12:09 mark of the first period. On the power play, Yoon took a pass from
Hunter McKown and fired a shot from the point that went over the right shoulder of UMD goalie Matthew Thiessen. Steeves evened the score at 1-1 at the 7:08 mark of the second period with a power-play goal of his own. Gallatin found Steeves with a cross-ice pass and Steeves put the puck into an open net before Mbereko could slide into position. Gallatin, who had six shots on goal, one less than teammate Blake Biondi, scored the game winner with just 1:41 left in the third period. Trying to make a pass from the goal line to the front of the net, the puck bounced off the pad of Mbereko and went between his legs into the net. Biondi closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal with 36 seconds remaining.
