19th-Ranked Minnesota Duluth Downs Tigers

19th-ranked Minnesota Duluth scored two goals in the final 1:41 to claim a 3-1 victory over Colorado College Saturday night at Robson Arena.

Owen Gallatin had a goal and an assist and Derek Daschke added a pair of assists to help the Bulldogs avenged a 5-0 drubbing by CC on Friday night and even their record at 5-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the NCHC.

Colorado College (4-6-0, 1-1-0 NCHC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead as team captain Bryan Yoon scored his first goal of the season at the 12:09 mark of the first period. On the power play, Yoon took a pass from Hunter McKown and fired a shot from the point that went over the right shoulder of UMD goalie Matthew Thiessen.

Unfortunately, that was all the Tigers could put on the board. After outshooting Minnesota Duluth, 8-5, in the first 20 minutes, CC mustered just 12 in the last two periods, while the Bulldogs put 30 on CC goalie Kaidan Mbereko, who finished with 32 saves.

Ben Steeves evened the score at 1-1 at the 7:08 mark of the second period with a power-play goal of his own. Gallatin found Steeves with a cross-ice pass and Steeves put the puck into an open net before Mbereko could slide into position.

Gallatin, who had six shots on goal, one less than teammate Blake Biondi, scored the game winner with just 1:41 left in the third period. Trying to make a pass from the goal line to the front of the net, the puck bounced off the pad of Mbereko and went between his legs into the net.

Biondi closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal with 36 seconds remaining.

Despite scoring on their first power play, the Tigers were held scoreless in three other man-advantage opportunities in the game, while UMD was 1-for-3. The Bulldogs held a 35-20 advantage in shots and Thiessen made 19 saves.

Colorado College returns to action next weekend at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Nov. 11-12.
