Magnus's Buzzer Beater Lifts Tigers to Season Opening Win

Sophomore forward Leo Magnus buried a three-point buzzer beater from half court to lift Colorado College to a heart-stopping 65-62 victory in its season opener against George Fox on Tuesday in Reid Arena.

"Our guys played really hard tonight," coach Jeff Conarroe said. "We have a lot of room to grow offensively and our inexperience showed at times. George Fox is a good team and who shot it very well. But in the end, our guys showed tremendous resiliency in the second half."

After a fumbled layup by the Bruins, Magnus made the rebound with one second left on the game clock and drained the basket in front of a raucus Reid Arena. Magnus started the season with a team-leading 17 points, one assist and four rebounds.

Sophomore forward Devin Philio nearly missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds in the Tiger's victory. Edgar Romero finished with 10 points and two assists, while Dinari Boykin added nine points and nine rebounds.

The Bruins led for majority of the second half until Boykin's fast break in the paint led to the Tigers 18-9 run to tie the game with 1:23 left on the clock.

"I thought our commitment to taking care of the ball, our defensive effort on some really good guards and our effort on the glass was the difference in the game," Conarroe said. "We are excited to see this team grow."

Kade Sorenson came off the bench for the Bruins to score a team-high 15 points for George Fox.
