Colorado College did its best to stay in contention for next week's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, but after staying within striking distance for almost 34 minutes, the University of St. Thomas utilized an 8-1 fourth-quarter spurt to secure a 62-49 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers were within seven points after
Jack McRoskey scored on a layup with 6:10 remaining in the game, but UST Cameron Gims hit back-to-back triples to give the Celts a 56-42 cushion with 2:33 to go.
Wil Nisbet gave the Tigers a 17-10 lead when he sank a pair of free throws with 8:34 to play in the first half and CC kept the lead until St. Thomas took the lead with two minutes to play in the first half.
McRoskey, who scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the second half, gave the Tigers their final lead at 25-24 on a layup 15 seconds into the second half, however UST utilized a 14-3 surge to take its first double-digit lead at 38-28.
McRoskey also led Colorado College with four assists and grabbed four rebounds.
Scott Cunningham scored 14 points and finished the season with a team-leading and career-best 366.
Joshua Sanchez produced game highs of 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Celts, who clinched the top seed for next week's SCAC championship.
Gims also posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Devin Philio led the Tigers with five rebounds.

Christian Alaekwe scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds.
