Last Time Out
The Tigers swept a pair of overtime games against Miami University last weekend at Robson Arena ... On Friday,
Hunter McKown posted his first career hat trick, including the game-winning goal with 15.4 seconds left in overtime, to lift CC to a 4-3 victory.
Brett Chorske also scored and
Matt Vernon had a season-high 35 saves for the Tigers, who posted their first overtime victory and second one-goal win of the season. McKown opened the scoring with 24.1 seconds left in the first period with his 11th goal of the season. He fired a wrist shot past Miami goalie Ludwig Persson after taking a feed from
Brian Hawkinson. The RedHawks took the lead with a pair of power-play goals in the second period. P.J. Fletcher scored at the 3:51 mark of the middle frame with a one-timer from the right circle, then Matt Barry scored from the left circle with just 27 seconds remaining in the period to put Miami on top. Colorado College couldn't capitalize on either of its two five-minute power plays, one in the first period and one in the second. Each time, the Tigers took a penalty of their own to wipe out two minutes. Chorske tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period, but Fletcher gave Miami the lead again with another power-play goal at the 7:48 mark. McKown wasn't about to let this one get away, however, and he tied the game with his second of the night midway through the final frame. It looked like Chorske gave CC the lead with just under five minutes to play, but his goal was disallowed after the refs took a closer look and deemed he made contact with Persson. The Tigers outshot Miami, 5-0, in the extra period and McKown ended it with a nasty wrist shot from the slot to cap his career night. CC attempted a season-high 49 shots on goal ... On Saturday,
Matthew Gleason scored 27 seconds into overtime the Tigers a 3-2 victory and season sweep over Miami. Gleason, appearing in his second game back after missing eight contests due to an injury, crashed the net after
Logan Will sent the puck towards the crease. Gleason got his stick on it and shot the puck towards the net. The puck caromed off Persson and slid past the goal line to give the Tigers their first four-game sweep of an opponent since the 2007-08 season.
Tyler Coffey scored twice, giving him five goals against the RedHawks this season, and
Matt Vernon had 25 saves for the Tigers. Coffey opened the scoring at the 10:50 mark of the opening period.
Jackson Jutting (two assists) took the puck behind the net and found Coffey in the slot. Coffey, who had a hat trick against Miami on Jan. 7, put the puck in the open net as Persson was still looking behind the net. During a five-minute power play, Matt Barry sent the puck to the front of the net and Chase Gresock deflected it past Vernon 53 seconds into the middle frame to even the score. Hampus Rydqvist gave the RedHawks the lead at the 12:42 mark of the second when his seeing-eye shot from the high slot snuck past Vernon. Coffey evened the game at 2-2 with a wrister from the right circle that went between Persson and the near post with 12:48 remaining in the third period.
Brett Chorske collected an assist on each of Coffey's goals.
