Colorado College exploded for a season-high 21 goals, including eight in the fourth quarter, as the Tigers pulled away for convincing 21-13 victory over McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon at Washburn Field.
Eight different players had at least one goal for CC, including
Tobin Lonergan, who matched her season high of six. The first-year attacker also dished out a pair of assists to finish the game with a season-best eight points.
Caroline Shay tied her season high of three goals and dished out a season-best three assists to finish with six points, her most in a contest this season.
Olivia Dossett struck for a career-high four goals, and was one of three Tigers who scored in the second half while CC was down a player.
Lonergan recorded a natural hat trick as Colorado College began the game with a 4-0 run. Despite never trailing, each time the Tigers threatened to break the game open, McDaniel was able to close the gap.
After Michaela Reed cut Colorado College's lead to 11-8 with 8:14 remaining in the second half, the Green Terror had an opportunity to pull even closer when CC's
Susie Renehan was given the team's third yellow card.
Instead of pulling closer, McDaniel watched as Lonergan and
Courtney Zell scored while the Tigers were a player down to extend their lead to 13-8.
Emma Miller and Kealy Allison notched free-position goals early in the fourth quarter as the Green Terror clawed its way back to within 13-10, but that was as close as it would get.
Lonergan ignited a 7-2 surge that saw the Tigers build a commanding 20-12 cushion with less than four minutes to splay. Â Â
Colorado College finished with a 28-20 advantage in ground balls and a 42-38 edge in total shots.
The Green Terror won 22 draw controls, compared to 15 for CC.
In addition to her goal and three assists, Ortman led the Tigers with five draw controls and five ground balls.
Natalie Slade recorded 13 saves for Colorado College, her fourth double-digit effort of the season. Four of her saves were on free-position shots.
Hannah Miller stopped nine shots for the Green Terror after coming on almost three minutes into the second quarter.
