Tigers Hang Tough Against No. 1 Salisbury University

Colorado College continued to demonstrate this season's significant improvement on Sunday by giving No. 1 Salisbury University a battle before falling, 17-8, at Sea Gull Stadium.

The Tigers were within two goals at halftime and five at the end of the third quarter before Salisbury outscored CC 6-2 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

After falling behind, 5-1, early in the second quarter, Colorado College responded with a 4-0 run to draw even with the Sea Gulls on Dylan Wells' second tally with 8:35 remaining in the second quarter.

Salisbury regained the lead when Jarrett Bromwell scored with 5:35 to play before halftime, then Logan Posner tacked on a momentum builder with 21 seconds to go before the break.

The Sea Gulls added four third-quarter goals before Dylan Brown scored for the second time with 1:52 remaining in the frame to trim CC's deficit to 11-6.

Any hopes of an upset by the Tigers evaporated when Salisbury scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter. Wells and Brown each scored the last of their team-leading three goals during the final 10 minutes.

Cross Ferrara led Salisbury with five goals, three of which came in the final 11 minutes. Logan Posner scored a pair of goals and set up four others.

The Sea Gulls finished the game with a 44-34 advantage in total shots and 35-28 edge in ground balls. Salisbury also won 19 of 28 faceoffs.

Ben Anastos made 15 saves for Colorado College before giving way to Pat Mahoney with 2:53 remaining in the game. It marked the sixth time in seven games the sophomore goalkeeper posted double-digit saves.

Wells and Ben Bradshaw picked up three ground balls apiece to lead the Tigers.

Z.J. Shahin made 13 saves for Salisbury.
