Tigers Rout Anderson University to Advance to HCLC Title Game

       
Colorado College struck for the first 16 goals of the game and advanced to the final of the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference Championship with a 22-2 rout of Anderson University on Friday afternoon in Chicago.
   
Charlie Rainer scored a game-high five goals on six shots for the Tigers, who will face Southwestern University in the title game on Sunday, May 8, at noon (MT). The Pirates advanced with an 18-3 win over Hanover College.
 
Rainer, who became the fifth Tiger to reach the 20-point mark this season, now had scored at least one goal in six consecutive games. His five goals and points against the Ravens are season highs.
 
Declan Maguire scored the first of his four goals to open the scoring just 41 seconds into the contest. Maguire added two more in the first 15 minutes as CC held a 9-0 lead after the opening frame.
 
Rainer, who notched a tally in the first period, opened the scoring in the second to make it 10-0 with 12:24 remaining and added another with 5:09 left in the period to give the Tigers a 13-0 advantage.
 
CC, which led 15-0 at halftime, kept up the pressure in the second half as Rainer and Will Hanson each posted a pair of goals. Hanson finished with three goals, while 10 other Tigers each recorded one goal.
 
The Tigers outshot Anderson, 53-15, and held a 39-12 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Colorado College won 21 of 27 faceoffs and finished with a 39-12 edge in ground balls.
 
Johnathan Havener and Josh Rhodes scored in the third period for Anderson.
 
Ben Anastos, who started in net for Colorado College, did not face a shot in the first period before giving way to Pat Mahoney, who made three saves during the middle two quarters. Cam Devlin saw just one shot in his 15 minutes of action in the fourth quarter.
    
   
Colorado College Standouts
Will Burdette produced three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Winston Chodnicki was 7-for-7 at the dot and grabbed five ground balls.
 
Anderson University Standouts
Justin Bemis caused three turnovers and picked up a pair of ground balls.
Eric Fisher stopped 11 shots for the Ravens.
 
Notes
Colorado College improved to 6-8.
Anderson finished its season with an 8-7 record.
CC improved to 8-1 all-time in conference tournament games.
