Volleyball Sweeps Day 1 of Pikes Peak Challenge

Colorado College went undefeated against John Carroll University and the University of Wisconsin-Superior on the first day of the Pikes Peak Challenge.
 
The 14th-ranked Tigers defeated the Blue Streaks in straight sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-17) thanks to a career-best performance by sophomore outside hitter, Kellie Hopper. Hopper had a career-high 10 kills off of 16 attacks and a .500 hitting percentage in the Tigers victory.
 
CC never trailed John Carroll with eight blocks and held the Blue Streaks to a 0.1 hitting percentage.
 
Junior setter Jenny Jenks posted a double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs while junior outside hitter Isabella Lipacis dished out 11 kills and eight digs.
 
Jillian Kellick and Jessica Liddle led the Blue Streaks with six kills apiece.
 
In the second match, Colorado College hit an impressive .350 to make quick work of University of Wisconsin-Superior in a match that took just 65 minutes. The Tigers never trailed in the first two sets and swept the Yellowjackets in straight sets 25-15, 25-15, 25-17.
 
CC was propelled to victory thanks to career-best performances from a number of Tigers.
 
Lipacis posted a team leading .562 hitting percentage with a career-high 20 kills on 32 attacks with just two errors while Jenks earned an impressive 38 assists.
 
Junior opposite hitter Keeley Kandziora and sophomore middle hitter Kaylie Stuteville both posted career-high nine kills in the Tiger victory on Friday.
 
Alexie Pryd led the Yellowjackets with 10 kills while Mathea Leiskau had a team-high eight digs.
 
The Pikes Peak Challenge continues Saturday with five more matches. Colorado College plays host to Hardin-Simmons University at noon and closes out the tournament against Lawrence University at 2 pm.
