Colorado College started its Mountain West Conference slate with a 1-1 tie against Fresno State on Thursday in Fresno, California.
The Tigers (3-3-2, 0-0-1 MW) struck early with a goal by
Adelaide Gaffney off a pass from
Jordan Darrow in the first minute of the match. Gaffney took over the team lead in scoring with her third goal of the season.
The Bulldogs (0-6-3, 0-0-1) evened the scoreboard in the 20th minute with a goal by Sheyenne Hodge, assisted by Megan Galvan and Shantay Tamez.
CC was outshot 14-7 but
Ally Wakeman made five saves to preserve the tie for the Tigers.Â
"Tonight was a good reminder of the physicality and fight it takes to compete in the Mountain West," head coach
Keri Sanchez said. "I was excited to see us score early but then I thought we let down a bit which allowed Fresno State to gain momentum. I appreciate the fight we showed throughout the game and love that we had a few chances late to try and win it."
The Tigers return to action on Sunday at 12 pm against San Jose State at Stewart Field.Â
