Tigers Drop MW Home Opener to San Jose State

Tiana Cello scored the only goal in the 49th minute to lead the San Jose State women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Colorado College in a Mountain West match Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.

After a scoreless first half, Cello took a pass from Taylor Phillips, moved down the left side and sent what looked like a cross into the box that ended up in the upper right corner of the net past Tiger goalkeeper Ally Wakeman.

Colorado College (3-4-2, 0-1-1 MW) had a couple of decent chances throughout the game, but could muster only one shot on goal, a left-footed chance by Kaelin Woodruff in the 30th minute that was saved by SJSU keeper Bente Pernot.

Pernot was forced the leave the game after injuring her right hand following a Colorado College corner kick in the 57th minute. The Tigers tried to collect the tying goal against backup Autum Monty, but a header by Gracie Huebner in the 63rd minute went just wide and a rocket from Shalom Prince in the 74th minute caromed straight off the crossbar.
