Tigers and Aztecs Battle to 3-3 Draw

Colorado College and San Diego State battled to a 3-3 tie Thursday night in Mountain West women's soccer action at Stewart Field.

The Tigers (3-4-3, 0-1-2 Mountain West) jumped out the gate early, putting three goals on the board in the first 26 minutes.

Senior Aspen Jeter opened the scoring with her first career goal in the 19th minute. Jeter blasted a free kick from 35 yards out that went off the fingers of sprawling SDSU goalkeeper Alexa Madueno and into the net.

Fellow senior Adelaide Gaffney posted her fourth goal of the season to make it 2-0 in the 21st minute. She took a crossing pass from Haley Williams, took a back-foot shot that went off the crossbar, but gathered the rebound and put it past Madueno. Williams notched her team-leading fourth assist on the play.

Just five minutes later, it was 3-0 in favor of the Tigers when Brett Tsamasfyros' shot from the top of the box caromed off the crossbar and went right to Shalom Prince, who knocked it in from the doorstep.

The Aztecs (3-3-5, 1-1-1 MW) fought back and cut the lead to 3-1 in the 34th minute when Julia Gomez took a pass from Emma Gaines-Ramos and placed a shot past CC's backup keeper Zahra Cheeseman, who entered the game one minute earlier after starter Ally Wakeman exited with a bloody nose. Wakeman re-entered the game less than a minute later.

Gaines-Ramos helped SDSU cut the lead to one in the 55th minute when she found Denise Castro down the left side and Castro put a left-footed shot past Wakeman.

The Aztecs scored the equalizer in the 75th minute. Kiera Utush sent a shot off the crossbar in front that went right to Lily Davis, who put the rebound past Wakeman.

The Tigers outshot SDU, 17-9, in total shots, and 4-3 in shots on goal.

Colorado College returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 2, against New Mexico at Stewart Field, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
