The Colorado College men's cross country team opened the 2022 season on Saturday with a fifth-place finish at the UCCS Rust Buster Meet in Monument Valley Park.

James Settles led the Tigers with a 36th-place individual finish, running the 8K race in 27 minutes, 41.03 seconds. Fellow junior
Devlin Swanson was close behind in 38th place with a time of 27:42.41.

Sophomore
Brett Kitazono placed 43
rd, followed by freshman
Joe Bullock, who finished 44
th in his first collegiate race. Freshman
Huck Whittemore, who also ran his inaugural race, rounded out the scoring for CC in 55
th place.

"We kept the efforts very much under control today and had some really solid groups forming," head coach
Alex Nichols said. "It was great to see teamwork and supportive racing out there. Today was just what we needed to get the season started."
