Broad, Rich Lead Tigers to Upset Over No. 8 St. Thomas

Jasper Broad saved all five shots he faced for his second consecutive shutout and Dylan Rich scored the game's only goal to lead the Colorado College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over 8th-ranked University of St. Thomas Sunday afternoon in Houston.

The Tigers improved to 7-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the SCAC and earned their first win over a ranked opponent since beating No. 8 Luther College, 3-0, on Aug. 31, 2019.

St. Thomas suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 7-1-1 and 0-1 in league play.

CC broke a scoreless tie when Rich headed in his third goal of the season off a Wyatt Linggi pass in the 72nd minute.

At the half, the Tigers had recorded just one shot on goal and two corners and finished the game with three shots on goal. St. Thomas led in corners, 9-2.

"This was another total team effort," head coach Scott Palguta said. "The conditions were brutal with the heat and having played Friday and traveled Saturday, but the guys played with real determination. All 20 players on the trip played and contributed. We got better and deeper at the same time this weekend."

The Tigers return to action at home on Friday, Oct. 13, against Southwestern University at 4 p.m.
