Tigers Fall to SDSU in Mountain West Contest

Box Score The Colorado College women's soccer team entered Sunday's match at San Diego State looking for its second consecutive victory. Unfortunately, the Aztecs came away with a 3-1 decision at the SDSU Sports Deck.

The home team struck first in the 17th minute when Kiera Utush scored on a penalty kick after CC's Makenna Kolson fouled Denise Castro in the box.

The Tigers evened the score at 1-1 in the 58th minute thanks to Lily Byrne, who converted a PK of her own following a hand ball call in the box against the Aztecs.

San Diego State, which outshot CC, 32-10, in total shots and 18-4 in shots on goal, scored twice within a span of three minutes later in the second half to put the game out of reach. Emma Gaines-Ramos scored in the 70th minute, followed by Alexys Ocampo in the 73rd.

Freshman Regan Wallace made a career-high 15 saves for the Tigers, while Alexa Madueo had three for SDSU.

"We are disappointed in today's result," head coach Keri Sanchez said. "We didn't have composure on the attack in the first half so we spent most of it defending, which is tiring. Second half, we did much better finding an offensive rhythm and fought to get back in the game. With the game tied, their impact players stepped up and finished a couple of shots. Regan (Wallace) had the best game of the year to keep us in it and I appreciate that we continued to try to crawl back into the game until the final whistle."

The Tigers return to action on Thursday, Oct. 5, against Nevada at Stewart Field, beginning at 6 p.m.
